BOWEN SCULPTURE - FRANKENSTEIN BUST - EARLY RARE RESIN 's an early bit of Bowen brilliance, and an obscure item that's seldom seen today. It's a highly sensitive study of the patchwork horror known as the Frankenstein Monster, a rare resin model from 16 years ago. Randy Bowen has been amazing fans and peers alike with his prolific output of exceptional figures for over two decades now, but this is one of his original pieces that the sculptor would crank out in between "real jobs." Rewind back some 12 years, and fans would occasionally see Randy set up at one of the various conventions around the country selling many of his fabulous Bowen Designs painted statues, and sometimes, a handful of original oddities like this one. It's a wonderful depiction of the tormented monster, not specifically based on any given film or literary image, yet baring a resemblance to Karloff's classic creature. Roughly 1/12 scale, Bowen's Frankenstein bust itself measures 2 5/8" tall x 2 1/8" wide x 1 1/2" deep, and is signed on the back: R. Bowen. It's neatly keyed to plug into a pedestal display base that measures 3" tall x 2 1/8" wide x 2 1/8" deep. Pop them together, the entire piece stands 5 5/8" tall. Both base and figure are flawlessly cold-cast in solid resin. How many of these
terrifying trinkets were ever cast into reality? Surely only a handful, and most of those never leave the admiring hands of the collectors who acquired them way back when. An early effort by a true talent, and a honey of a horror that just might slip into the shadow realm forever. Please note that this is an original garage kit, not a recast.
