    Description

    This is a signed photo of Woolf Phillips
    (1919-2003),
    a popular Big Band leader in England. His brother
    Sid Phillips (1907-1973) was also a popular Big Band
    musician. Sid's son Simon Phillips is a well-known
    rock and jazz drummer.
    Woolf Phillips began as a tenor sax player, and learned
    composition and arranging with the help of his brother.
    He became the Director of the Royal Army Medical Corps
    (RAMC) band during World War II. Phillips went on to make
    many recordings, and worked on radio and television shows.
    He performed frequently with great success at the London
    Palladium. In later years he moved to California.

    The photo is signed in milk ink.
    The signature is somewhat sloppy (see scan).
    If you run your finger lightly over the signature, you can feel the ink.

    The corners are clipped, giving the photo an octagonal shape.
